Modalities and Conditions Leading to an Effective & Inclusive Participation on Artificial Intelligence Issues
The participation of civil society organizations (CSOs) in governance issues is recognized as an essential element in contemporary democratic societies.
The presence and use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools is growing exponentially in all spheres of society. At the same time, the capabilities of these systems, particularly in terms of decision-making, are becoming ever greater. As a result, the repercussions that their deployment and use could have on individuals can be numerous, uncertain, and even dangerous. In this context, it is vital that CSOs assert their role as watchdogs, countervailing forces, and representatives of people’s interests on these issues.
This paper highlights how CSO participation needs to be structured to effectively influence AI-related deliberation and decision-making processes.
