A Human Centric Approach of Cybersecurity of Big Event: The Case of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games

The Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, as big events, took on an eminently political dimension. This edition, extraordinary in its design, took place in a geopolitical environment characterized by the accumulation of threats and cyber threats and by the advent of innovative technologies that are unavoidable and irreversible.

The cybersecurity of this event and its societal and political impacts were therefore a key focus of our interdisciplinary study. This study examines how to overcome the complexity of big events to better understand them, grasp their meaning, and develop cybersecurity measures specific to them. It therefore distinguishes and differentiates between organizational cybersecurity and cybersecurity for big events.

Thanks to funding from Obvia, a collaboration was established between researchers at the Université de Sherbrooke in Quebec and the Technology and Information Systems Department of the Paris Organising Committee for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games (COJOP). This collaboration was based on knowledge sharing through seminars, summary and review meetings, cybersecurity observation, document analysis, and the development of a body of literature, which was almost non-existent, on cybersecurity for big events.lon fort de la cybersécurité
