This project aims to understand the perceptions of older adults regarding the use of conversational agents in healthcare through a participatory approach. Drawing on "popular theories," it explores their perceptions, experiences, expectations, and barriers to adopting conversational agents. Two workshops will be organized with 36 participants from the Quebec region (n=18 per workshop). The workshops will include demonstrations of conversational agents, group discussions, and real-life scenarios to explore the perceptions of these tools in health situations. The collected data will be analyzed using NVivo software, with a particular focus on gendered and ageist comments, as well as the intersections between different sociodemographic factors. The results will provide recommendations for the development of conversational agents tailored to older adults and contribute to broader research on AI acceptance among older adults in Canada.
