The Social Justice and Artificial Intelligence Chair – Fondation Abeona/ENS/OBVIA is offering a full-time postdoctoral fellowship for a period of 12 months. The fellowship will take place under the supervision of Professor Anne-Sophie Hulin (Faculty of Law, Université de Sherbrooke, Quebec).
As part of this fellowship, the postdoctoral researcher will be invited to conduct his or her own research project and to collaborate on the research activities of the Social Justice and Artificial Intelligence Chair. One of the Chair's objectives is to explore data governance models in the context of data sharing projects for public interest purposes.
Therefore, research projects related to law and data as well as any other relevant field of law are welcome. More specifically, research projects with an interdisciplinary and/or comparative focus as well as those focusing on the field of health will be favoured.
Applications will be considered as of August 1, 2022. Only those shortlisted will be invited for an interview.
The anticipated start date is September 1, 2022. Depending on the subject matter and research interest, the postdoctoral fellowship may be extended for an additional year. In addition to the salary offered by the Social Justice and Artificial Intelligence Chair, the selected candidate will also be able to obtain a $20,000 Faculty Scholarship, under the condition of registration to the Graduate Diploma in Research Development (DESS) at the Centre compétences recherche+ (CR+) at Université de Sherbrooke.
The Chair is committed to offering:
- $48,000 paid as a salary
- access to a workstation at the Faculty of Law at Université de Sherbrooke
- access to the services of the library of Université de Sherbrooke and its network of libraries
- participation in groundbreaking research projects in data governance
- multiple opportunities for scientific contributions and productions, including participation in the international colloquium closing the Chair's work (Paris, May 2023)
- various perspectives of collaboration between Quebec and France
The postdoctoral fellow undertakes to:
- carry out a research project in accordance with the proposal submitted in the competition
- conduct full-time research during the postdoctoral fellowship
- present his or her work in progress to the Social Justice and Artificial Intelligence Chair
- ensure, as much as possible, a regular presence, including virtual, within the University
Eligibility Criteria
- to have followed a legal curriculum at the University
- have an interest in legal issues related to data
- have submitted his or her doctoral thesis before taking up the position
- not hold another job or a postdoctoral fellowship from a major granting agency (e.g., SSHRC or FRQSC) during the period of the postdoctoral fellowship
- Canadian citizenship, permanent residence or a valid work permit
