The Centre de recherche en droit public (CRDP) and the Université de Montréal present the symposium Souveraineté culturelle et géants numériques. Regards croisés, Canada, France, Belgium, Québec on April 18 and 19 at the Laboratoire de cyberjustice.
In the digital age, French-language creative industries, cultural industries and media are under severe pressure, and the cultural sovereignty of states has been undermined by digital giants since the digital superpowers changed the rules of the game by clashing with those established by states. Fortunately, some states, notably in the Francophonie, have undertaken a number of initiatives to counter the domination of digital giants and their impact on media and culture.
In the presence of Canadian Heritage Minister Pascale St-Onge and Quebec Minister of Culture and Communications Mathieu Lacombe, these two days of meetings will highlight these initiatives and take stock of the prospects to be explored.
Over 30 speakers will take part in 6 panels:
- The role of algorithms in promoting non-American cultural and linguistic content
- The role of government in regulating platforms
- The state of the media in the face of GAFAM
- The future of linguistic and cultural diversity on platforms
- The influence of platforms on content creators
- Artificial intelligence: the role of states in the face of digital giants. The example of the EU
